'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date update: Sequel not coming out anytime soon

"Red Dead Redemption 2" wasn't meant to be in E3, as per Sony. Rockstar Games

"Red Dead Redemption 2" did not turn up at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3, much to the disappointment of many who were expecting the sequel to be there.

Rumor has it that the appearance of "Red Dead Redemption 2" there was cancelled the last-minute because the presentation included a scene that would have been unbefitting following the Orlando shooting.

However, Sony vice president of Third Party Relations and Developer Technology Group Adam Boyes clarified that what they showed on E3 was what it has been planning all along.

"The length and content we showed has been locked and unchanged for months," Boyes tweeted in response to a fan who asked for clarification and the absence of "Red Dead Redemption 2."

Although developer Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed the development of "Red Dead Redemption 2," many fans were under the impression it will be on E3.

Prior to the event, there have been heaps of leaks and information pointing to the existence of the game including a purported map from the game and even talks of a remaster of the first game.

The said map hinted that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be a prequel and will tell stories on how the world in the first game came to be that way.

It also suggested that the game will allow players to visit the city of New Bordeaux during the 19th century. For the uninitiated, this city was originally featured in the game "Mafia 3."

Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive has already said before that it will treat "Red Dead Redemption" as a "permanent franchise" much like "Grand Theft Auto."

A 2016 release for "Red Dead Redemption 2" was also very likely since its predecessor came out six years ago. However, considering what Boyes said, the sequel might not be here soon.

According to rumors, Rockstar might have "Red Dead Redemption" available for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility first. Other than that, there's no telling what the company is doing next as regards to the series.

Whether or not "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released anytime soon, fans will simply have to wait.
