'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date news: Rockstar to showcase game at Gamescom?

Will "Red Dead Redemption 2" be unveiled this August? Rockstar Games

"Red Dead Redemption 2" was a no-show at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 2016, but it looks like developer Rockstar Games is ready to unveil the long-awaited sequel now.

According to a new rumor, the "Red Dead Redemption" sequel will be revealed next month at Gamescom since Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive will grace the event.

Take-Two has promised a few months back that the next Rockstar game will be revealed "soon." The company offered no additional details and did not indicate any time frame for a game reveal.

But it was believed that time that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be Rockstar's next offering. And Take-Two may finally be ready to show it to the world.

However, with no official word from Take-Two, fans could only hope for now. Game Rant reminds fans that there are other games that the company could end up presenting.

Instead of "Red Dead Redemption 2," whose existence has not been confirmed by Rockstar and Take-Two, titles like "Bioshock" or "Mafia 3" may end up getting the spotlight at Gamescom.

As per previous rumors, "Red Dead Redemption 2" was supposed to be revealed at E3 last month. However, the reveal was purportedly scrapped the last-minute seeing that the footage prepared was reportedly inappropriate in light of the Orlando mass shooting.

While Sony insists that there were no eleventh-hour changes made in the presentation, it is still believed that "Red Dead Redemption 2" was supposed to be announced at the convention.

Prior to E3, there were tons of leaks pertaining to "Red Dead Redemption 2" and even a rumored remastered version of the first one.

Now, with Gamescom just a stone throw away, fans hope that this will be the event they will finally see "Red Dead Redemption 2" in all its glory.

Gamescom takes place Aug. 18 to 21 in Cologne, Germany.
