'Real Housewives of New Jersey' news: 3-part special to 'feature' Teresa Giudice and family

Teresa Giudice of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" may be serving her time in prison, but it does not mean that her fans will miss seeing her on TV.

The reality TV star and one of the most controversial cast members of Bravo's show is currently behind bars after she and her husband Joe pleaded guilty to fraud last year. But Teresa will still enjoy lengthy airtime with her family while serving her 15-month sentence.

Bravo is set to release a three-part special titled "The Real Housewives of New Jersey Teresa Checks In," which features the Giudice household, including their daughters Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana. The show aims to chronicle the lives of Joe and the kids while Teresa is behind bars. The "RHONJ" star's presence is still felt in the special as she regularly makes her "check in" calls to know about the welfare of her children.

Based on the trailer, Teresa still has a big role in her family's lives.

"It's amazing how she still controls everything from in there, you know what I mean?" Joe says in the trailer.

But while Joe struggles to manage the household, he gets assistance from some family members. They are constantly visited by Teresa's brother Joe Gorga and his wife Melissa Gorga, as well as their cousin Rosie Pierri.

Viewers will see how the Teresa-less household deals with the eighth-grade prom and graduation of Gia, Milania's coffee drinking problems, the typical teenage girl problems, as well as several trips outside New Jersey.

Despite being locked up in prison, Teresa never lost communication with the "Real Housewives" creator Andy Cohen, who is reportedly included in her approved email list. In a recent interview with E! News, Cohen admitted that he is hoping to get Teresa back for another season of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" by sending her letters about his proposal to get her back for the next season once she is out of prison.

The 43-year-old reality star has been detained since January, but she is expected to get an early release this year instead of ending her term in February 2016.

While there is limited information about the new season of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," the Giudices' three-episode special will begin airing on Sunday, Oct. 11.
