Ever since season 3 winded into an intense close last September, news has been at a premium about "Ray Donovan" season 4, which puts viewers at the edge of their seats about what's next in the complicated life of everyone's favorite fixer.

The show was renewed even before season 3 wrapped up. However, ever since the renewal, Showtime has shied away from revealing details about what's to come in the crime drama. This prompts the rumor mills to step in and fill the gap.

What's only guaranteed is that "Ray Donovan" season 4 will have 12 episodes, just like its previous runs. These episodes will be used mostly to examine Ray's past and the titular character's "option or desire" to face it.

"But that desire is going to lead him into a new form of relationship, a relationship that is going to open up his life personally and professionally in yet another large city," showrunner David Hollander told The Hollywood Reporter.

"There will be new situations, a new family dynamic, and along the way that will really impact every member of his family and in a strange way conflate with Mickey again," he explained.

As for Terry and Abby's relationship, which was hinted at last season with their flirtations and moments where they let go of themselves and become a bit too cozy, "Ray Donovan" season 4 does not promise this to go on, with Terry's morals getting in the way.

Hollander told TV Line that Terry will just be someone that comforts Abby and their kiss is something he will always regret. It remains to be seen whether or not Abby will do what Terry chooses to do to avoid more complications.

Overall, Hollander promises that "Ray Donovan" season 4 will be an "emotional" ride but at the same time "big and loud and brassy and visually fun." At the moment, no release date for the new season is set.
