Kelly Rutherford will join the cast of "Quantico" in a recurring role beginning Sunday.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the "Gossip Girl" star landed a pivotal role in critically acclaimed terrorism drama as Laura, the mother of Shelby Wyatt (Johanna Braddy) who was perceived to die during the 9/11 attacks.
The report mentioned that Laura and Shelby's father Glenn (Kevin Kilner) are still alive but hiding to con money from their daughter.
While sharp-eyed viewers already spotted Rutherford during the previous episode when Shelby looked into her parents' old photo, Laura and Glenn will surface in the flesh in the episode 16 titled "Clue." According to the report, their appearance will further complicate the already thorny relationship between Shelby and her boyfriend Caleb Haas (Graham Rogers). It will also affect the difficult relationship between Caleb and his own mother, Senator Claire Haas (Marcia Cross).
Showrunner Josh Safran revealed in the report that Shelby will be very devastated after learning that her parent had been lying and using her for money for the past 15 years of her life.
"If everything that pushed you in one direction in your life is not true, then who are you? Forget what they have been doing for 15 years, what has she been doing for 15 years? ... Shelby finds herself on uneven ground in a major way, and it begins to change her," Safran explained.
Meanwhile, the episode will also show an unexpected alliance between Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) and Hannah Wyland (Eliza Coupe).
In the previous episode, Alex told Hannah everything that she knows about the terrorist attacks that put her life and reputation on the line. When she realized that Alex was actually telling the truth, Hannah will do everything that she can to help the fallen FBI agent to stop the terrorists from pushing through with their plans to strike again.
"Quantico" episode 16 airs Sunday, April 3, on ABC.
