Playstation Neo release date news, rumors: Console to be unveiled at Sony's special event in September

Sony is gearing up to launch the next-generation PlayStation 4 console dubbed the PlayStation 4 NEO next month.

The multinational video game developer officially sent out invites for the company's upcoming event in New York City on Sept. 7 called PlayStation Meeting. This was the same name given by the company to the event in February 2013 where they unveiled the PlayStation 4. The news was first revealed by the French gaming website Gameblog.

This contradicted earlier reports claiming that the new console will be unveiled during the 2016 Tokyo Game Show on Sept. 15. However, details about what should be expected during the said event have yet to be revealed.

The upcoming PlayStation 4 upgrade, which was earlier known as the PlayStation 4.5 and PlayStation 4K, will reportedly come out with new features that could heighten the players' gaming experience, according to a statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House in an interview with Financial Times in June. It is also expected to offer an improved virtual reality experience that could support the upcoming PlayStation VR, which is expected to be released on Oct. 13.

Some of the console's rumored features are enhanced graphics and built-in support for Ultra HD 4K resolution. But House continues to be mum about the device's actual hardware, which makes it harder to speculate on the actual capacity of the next-generation gaming console.

But this does not mean that Sony will pull out the current PlayStation 4 from the market.

"It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4," House stated. "We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle." He also said that all future games will still be playable using the standard PlayStation 4 even if the next-generation console is already in the market.

Information about the actual release date of PlayStation 4 Neo is expected to be revealed in the said event in September, which will reportedly have a livestream presentation, according to Polygon.
