'Pretty Little Liars' Christmas episode preview: Alison sees things through a ghost's eyes

Will the Liars and their loved ones have a danger free Christmas in the upcoming episode of PLL Season 5? ABC

With less than a week left before the airing of the highly-anticipated Christmas special of ABC's "Pretty Little Liars" season 5, viewers are already anticipating an explosive episode that can beat the cold holiday weather.

The official synopsis for the upcoming Christmas special titled "How the 'A' Stole Christmas" warns about the looming events following the epic midseason finale. It reads:

Christmas is quickly approaching, and all of Rosewood is full of merriment, except for Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer, who aren't feeling much holiday cheer after the loss of Mona and Spencer's murder charge looming over them. But when an opportunity presents itself with the chance to get evidence to clear Spencer's name, the girls and their partners devise a plan to get justice for Mona and finally bring Alison down. If the plan is successful, it could be a very Merry Christmas after all.

Meanwhile, Alison gets a glimpse at the past, present and future by a ghostly presence."

Spoilers reveal that the Liars will be compelled to attend the grand Christmas ball thrown by Alison's family to find enough evidence to clear Spencer's name against the murder charges against her. They will also try to find a way to prove that Ali is the real "A," and find a connection between her and Mona's murder.

Speaking of Mona, her presence, literally, will still be felt in the upcoming episode, as her ghost continues to haunt Rosewood. She will haunt Alison in particular, who will be forced to see things through her eyes.

Another impending drama that will happen during the Christimas special of "PLL's" fifth season is the strained relationship between Ali and Emily, which has been in a fast downward spiral during the last couple of episodes.

"Emily feels like she has been betrayed by Alison," series creator Marlene King told TV Guide during an interview. "That's where we begin the episode and that's very much a part of her story."

Could there be a possibility that the Liars will still find a way to enjoy the upcoming holidays in spite of A's interference?

The "Pretty Little Liars" season 5 Christmas special will air on Tuesday, Dec. 9, on ABC.
