Eight young development campaigners met with the Secretary of State for Scotland this weekend to demand action from the UK Government on ending global hunger.

The children from Saint Charles Primary School in Glasgow met Michael Moore on behalf of SCIAF, the Scottish Catholic development agency.

During their meeting, they handed in 3,000 campaign postcards supporting the call to the UK Government to do more to address hunger at this month's G8 summit.

The postcards were collected as part of the IF campaign, which highlights the fact that although there is enough food for everyone in the world, one in eight people go to bed hungry each night.

IF campaigners want G8 leaders meeting in Northern Ireland next week to agree action to clamp down on tax evasion and land grabbing by large corporations, and ensure aid promises are met.

Also present to receive the postcards was International Development Minister Lynne Featherstone.

Philippa Bonella, SCIAF's Head of Communications and Education commended the young people for being active Global Citizens.

She said: "The young people of Saint Charles Primary School, backed by over 3,000 SCIAF campaigners, demand that the UK Government use its presidency of the G8 Summit in Northern Ireland this month to make 2013 the beginning of the end of the scandal of global hunger.

"To do this world leaders must work together to stop corporate tax dodging, land grabs which see poor farmers evicted from their homes, and also honour our international aid commitments to the poor."
