'Person of Interest' season 5 release date update: New season set to premiere in spring 2016?

 CBS

Fans continue to demand for the fifth season of "Person of Interest" as CBS remains mum about the season's premiere date.

The sci-fi crime drama managed to bag the Favorite TV Crime Drama recognition during this year's 2016 People's Choice Awards, held in January. But the network continues to be silent about the fate of the show, with next season's premiere date is still unrevealed.

During the Television Critics Association's press tour in early January, CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller reacted to speculations about the show's cancellation.

When asked if season 5 will be the show's final season, the network executive said (via Entertainment Weekly), "No, we haven't aired the show yet. I'm not sure."

The speculations about the end of the series began after executive producer J.J. Abrams said that the series would be probably cancelled after the upcoming fifth season. But Abrams said that it would be sad not to continue the story because it still has a lot of good potential.

"Jonah [Nolan] and Greg Plageman have done such an amazing job on that show. I know what these episodes are, that they're done wrapping it up. We don't yet have a schedule. But I know they will see the light of day, [and] people will get to see these episodes. I know the power of that story," the executive producer said.

But fans of the show are still looking for ways for the show to extend. Many of them are using social media to express how they feel about the lack of information about "Person of Interest" season 5.

Meanwhile, an online petition to save the series was launched by the show's avid fans. The petition, which aims to gather at least 35,000 signatures, only need at least 7,000 more at the moment.

While the network mentioned that the series will probably return in spring, CBS is yet to reveal the exact premiere date of "Person of Interest" season 5.
