CBS has officially pulled the plug on "Person of Interest." The sci-fi crime drama will wrap up after season 5, which will be premiering on May 3.
It has long been suspected that the show will soon meet its end, but it is only this week that the network spoke about the Jonathan Nolan-created series.
Speaking about "Person of Interest" season 5 being the show's last, Nolan and co-executive producer Greg Plageman said that they are "extremely excited" to bring fans the final season of the show and also thanked everyone involved in the making and the success of the series.
"We're eternally grateful to our amazing cast and crew, as well as our partners at the studio and network. Most of all, we want to thank the show's fans — the best fans in the world. This subversive little paranoia-inducing cyberpunk-thriller is for you and would not have been possible without your support," the duo said in a statement picked up by IGN.
"As life has come to imitate 'Person of Interest,' it's been our great privilege to work on show for the past five seasons. We can't wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter," they went on to say.
Back in January, executive producer J.J. Abrams hinted that "Person of Interest" season 5 will be the end of the beloved series. He was heartbroken by the then-unconfirmed cancellation of the show but he was thankful being able to be part of it.
The departure of the show will be quick, with two new episodes of "Person of Interest" season 5 set to air every week. After its premiere on May 3, the remaining 12 episodes will be aired Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
In the final 13 installments of "Person of Interest," fans will finally know how Finch's party will fare against the ironically named "Samaritan" organization.
