Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) will have a shocking discovery as he goes back to London in the upcoming two-part finale of "Penny Dreadful" season 3.
In the sneak peek at the upcoming episodes, Ethan arrived back in London with Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and Kaetenay (Wes Studi). But the three of them where surprised when they discovered that the city was almost deserted, except for one ship crewmember, who told them that the city almost became a graveyard, and that they should return to where they came from. And it seems like the man was not kidding about everyone's sudden departure, since a colony of rats were also seen running away from the city.
This could mean that something dark has been happening to London while Ethan was away from the land to fix his own troubles. Is it too late for him to be reunited with Vanessa Ives (Eva Green)?
In the previous episode, titled "Ebb Tide," Ethan learned that Vanessa could be possessed by Dracula/Dr. Alexander Sweet (Christain Camargo) when Kaetenay saw her dangerous fate in a vision. This prompted him to drop everything in America to return to London and save the love of his life. But based on the events toward the end of the episode, Vanessa could be possibly already possessed by Dracula by the time of his arrival.
But according to the official press release for the first part of the season 3 finale, Ethan will do everything that he can to help save Vanessa. According to the episode's spoilers: "Ethan, Sir Malcolm and Kaetenay return to London. Dr. Seward discovers Renfield's secret. Meanwhile, Ethan heads out in search of Dr. Frankenstein. And Lily reveals a heartbreaking story from Brona Croft's past."
Meanwhile, the press release for the final part of the two-episode finale reads: "Ethan learns the shocking truth about Kaetenay. Dr. Seward uses hypnosis on Renfield. Meanwhile, The Creature must make a moral decision as Sir Malcolm, Ethan, Kaetenay, Dr. Seward and Catriona battle to save Vanessa."
The third season finale episodes of "Penny Dreadful" season 3 will air consecutively on Sunday, June 19, on Showtime.
