The "Overwatch" League or "OWL" is finally getting a female pro player.

Th gaming community is mostly made up of male video gamers and it is not so common to see female players engaging in online first-person shooter games. The same scenario exists in professional esports leagues. Now, female fans will be happy to know that Blizzard Entertainment is planning to break this sort of male dominance by placing in the first female pro player in "Overwatch" League.

The "Overwatch" League started just a few weeks ago with teams gathering their best players. However, it was noticeable that not one female player was selected in the rosters, and that could raise an issue concerning gender inequality. That is until recently when Korean top-level Zarya player Kim "Geguri" Se-yeon announced that she was selected to play for a foreign team.

Korean fans of the game would have already known about her as she also livestreams on Twitch, in which she made the announcement. "Regarding teams, just know that I'm going to be on a foreign team," says Geguri on her Twitch page as translated by Reddit. "I got many offers," she added.

Of course, this did not stop excited fans to speculate on which team she will be joining. It was easy for some fans to draw conclusions, especially given the few teams who would not exactly be having a hard time with the language barrier. One speculation, with which many seemed to agree, is that Geguri will be joining the New York Excelsior. Reddit user NYCMuffinMan noted that this team has players that speak fluent Korean. Furthermore, while she now follows all the OWL teams, the New York Excelsior was the first team she followed. It would make a lot of sense as she probably finds a cultural connection with them and that her playstyle fits well with the team.

For now, fans will just have to wait until she appears in the "Overwatch" League, or they can hope that Geguri reveals her team before then.
