The "Outlast" series is one of the few horror game series that many people look forward to whenever they release a game or a downloadable content (DLC). Unfortunately, although "Outlast 2" has been out for a while now, there is no upcoming DLC for it. However, developers Red Barrels did say they will add more new games to the series.

Video game developers Red Barrels made some announcements via their official "Outlast" Facebook page. In the post, they mentioned what fans can expect in the future for the series. Fans would have already expected an "Outlast 3" especially given the previous games' success. "We will, at some point, make an Outlast 3 and answers will be given," reads the post.

Unfortunately, the post also mentioned that they would not be making a DLC for the already existing "Outlast 2." They know that fans have been requesting a DLC since the first "Outlast" game had its own DLC called "Whistleblower." However, they reasoned out that they already had a DLC in mind when they made the first game whereas "Outlast 2" was made on its own.

Even without a DLC, fans at least know they are working on a new "Outlast" game. They note that this "Outlast 3" game is not related to the previous games. "Currently, we're working on something a lot of you have been asking for... It won't be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe," reads the post. "We can't say more right now, we first need to make sure we can make it work."

According to PC Gamer, the way they said made it seem like they are making the third installment a virtual reality (VR) game. The outlet particularly noted the phrases "distinct experience" and "we first need to make sure we can make it work." Although not much else has been said, fans can expect the new game to be out on the Nintendo Switch which Red Barrels already announced previously.
