Origin is now offering a made-to-order gaming laptop called the EVO15-S. This particular gaming laptop embraces the trend of sacrificing some core laptop features in order to accommodate a graphics card powerful enough to run most modern games. However, EVO15-S' case does not go overboard. Its tradeoffs of utility for power could be one of the most effective executions seen on gaming devices today.
The Origin EVO15-S handles graphics with an Nvidia Max-Q version of the GTX 1070 graphics processing unit (GPU). Max-Q is a GPU line that takes standard Nvidia products and underclocks them a little so that they can work with the demands of a gaming device. It results in thinner graphics cards that can fit into the chassis of gaming laptops.
With regards to processing, the EVO15-S is powered by an Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core central processing unit (CPU). This CPU is rated at 2.8 Ghz, but it can achieve speeds of 3.8 Ghz thanks to Intel's Turbo technology. The laptop is also fitted with 16 GB of DDR4 random access memory (RAM).
Storage space is also abundant on the Origin EVO15-S. It has a Samsung 960 EVO Solid State Drive (SSD) that can store up to 250 GB of data. This space is mainly for files that need to be accessed fast, as the SSD enables quick read/write access. Still, files that are less in-demand can go into the 2 TB Seagate hard drive.
The laptop boasts a 15.6" Full High-Definition (FHD) display. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is just right for smooth gameplay. However, one complaint about the screen is that it has a narrow viewing angle— one has to look at the screen directly to experience uniform backlighting.
Still, the Origin EVO15-S is a powerful gaming laptop that can run games like "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" ("PUBG") and "Call of Duty: WWII" without a hitch.
The EVO15-S is available via Origin and starts at $1,615. Its retail price can go up to $2,136.
