'Orange Is the New Black' season 4 cast, plot: Could Bennett and Stella return next season?

 Netflix

John Bennett's sudden disappearance was one of the most shocking events in "Orange Is The New Black" season 3, but does it mean that Matt McGorry's character will no longer appear in the series?

In the third season, Bennett was last seen abandoning Daya's (Dascha Polanco) childhood crib along the road and walked away with no explanation. But fans are still hoping that he will return and get back with Daya and their child.

However, McGorry provided no information about Bennett's future in Netflix's original series during a recent interview with TODAY. Instead, he talked about the difference between his "Orange Is the New Black" character and his portrayal of the spoiled law school student named Asher Millstone in ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder."

The actor said that it helps a lot that Bennett and Asher are polar opposites, which makes it easier for him to distinguish the roles from each other. "It actually helps that they're that different, because there's never any moment where I'm like "this feels more like Bennett or this feels more like Asher." They're pretty delineated in my mind and I think that if there was something a little more in the middle, it might bleed over but they are very different," McGorry explained.

Meanwhile, the return of Ruby Rose's character Stella Carlin also remains in the grey area at this point.

Stella was introduced in the third season of Jenji Kohan's comedy-drama series as Piper's (Taylor Schilling) new love interest. But she stole all the money that Piper earned from her panty business inside the Litchfield Penitentiary before her sentence ended, which led Piper to retaliate and plant several illegal items in her bunk to compromise her release.

But when asked during an interview with Variety back in July, the Australian actress/model said that she actually has no idea if Stella will return to the series or not.

"I don't actually know," Rose explained."With Jenji, literally anything could happen. But I think they've already started shooting in New York and I'm obviously not in those episodes. I think if Stella were to come back, it would be a pretty hefty storyline. She wouldn't just be coming back happy about the situation."

"Orange Is The New Black" season 4 is slated to premiere sometime in 2016.
