'Once Upon a Time' season 5 spoilers: Snow White feels like a failure because of Emma's situation

Fans can expect to see more "brave" women when "Once Upon a Time" returns for its fifth season.

During the recently concluded D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, the creators and several cast members of ABC's fantasy drama talked about the things to look forward to in the upcoming season. One of the things that they discussed during the panel is the inclusion is Scottish princess Merida from the 2012 Disney Pixar movie "Brave" in one of the arcs of "Once Upon a Time" season 5.

"Merida will interact with many of our characters," series co-creator Adam Horowitz said. "It's been a lot of fun to have her."

Ginnifer Goodwin, the actress who portrays the role of Snow White in the series, also said that Amy Manson's character is a welcome addition to the show.

"Merida's a bada**. There's always room for more strong women, so she's right at home," the actress told Zap2it

On the other hand, Goodwin's role will face a lot of difficulties when the series returns this fall, since Snow White's daughter Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) became the Dark One at the end of season 4.

"The darker Emma goes, the more to Snow/ Mary Margaret she is herself a failure," Goodwin shared.

Actor Josh Dallas understands Snow White's pain, since his character Prince Charming also feels the need to rescue Emma from being completely enveloped by darkness.

"Those realizations will make things grayer and grayer to her." Dallas said of Charming, "He's going to try to get his daughter back to the light."

It's a good thing Emma's parents are not the only ones who will do everything to stop her from going completely bad. The former baddie Regina (Lana Parilla) and Emma's man Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) will also help in bringing her back into the light.

Aside from the internal conflict in Storybrooke, the characters are also heading to Camelot to deal with King Arthur (Liam Garrigan), his wife Guinevere (Joana Metrass), and his court.

"Once Upon a Time" season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 27.
