Nvidia Turing GTX 11 series release date, specs & features news: To include GDDR6 memory

A lot of reports have surfaced this year regarding the successor to Nvidia's current GeForce GTX 10 series, with the most recent one suggesting that the upcoming GTX 11 line-up will boast a powerful GDDR6 memory. It was earlier tipped tip that the next high-end video card from Nvidia, based on the Turing hardware architecture, will be called the GTX 11, which will use a different naming system compared to the usual.

It is now speculated that the next-gen Turing GTX 11 series will use the GDDR6 memory, as the scheduled mass production of the said component conincides with the expected launch of the GPU this year.

For one, SK Hynix is reportedly starting with the GDDR6 mass production in the coming months, or sometime between June and July, after which it will be ready to be incorporated into the GTX 11 graphics cards.

On the other hand, Samsung was also reported to have its own GDDR6 memory developed this year. The South Korean tech firm has been teased to create a GDDR6 with speed up to 16Gbps, which may have already entered mass production last January.

Comparing Samsung's product with that of SK Hynix, it is believed that the former has the better performance. Thus, the GDDR6 memory from Samsung will be used in Nvidia's top-end GTX 11 graphics card, which might be called the GTX 1180. Meanwhile, SK Hynix's GDDR6 chip could find its way to GTX 1170.

The next family of video cards from Nvidia was initially thought to be called the GTX 20 series. However, it was rumored that Nvidia is going to name its next line-up as the GTX 11, using a different naming that would assign numbers to succeeding products in the increments of five. The usual naming of graphics card in the current GTX 10 series end with 50, 60, 70, and 80.

The Nvidia Turing GTX 11 series is expected to be announced sometime in July.
