Nokia 9 release date, specs rumors: Upcoming flagship phone's design allegedly leaked by HMD Global official

The Nokia 9 is one of the most anticipated flagship smartphones this 2018. While the details remain scarce regarding the premium handset, recent leaks have given the public an idea on its possible new features and design. The latest scoop came from a launch event in Jakarta, Indonesia recently, wherein an HMD Global official is seen holding a device suspected to be the Nokia 9.

According to the latest reports, an unknown Nokia smartphone has been spotted during the Nokia 8 launch in Jakarta earlier this month. The leaked photos taken by the participants are quite blurry, so the exact details of the device cannot be confirmed just yet. However, it appears that this Nokia handset has not yet been officially unveiled, thus raising the speculations that it is none other than the Nokia 9 itself.

Based on the leaked images, the suspected Nokia 9 smartphone has a curved-edge design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. However, the front appearance of the said device does not match the 18:9 aspect ratio. It seems that the Nokia 9 will have a 16:9 aspect ratio instead, contrary to earlier expectations that the phone will have a tall appearance and minimal bezels just like the latest flagship phones in the market.

The Nokia 9 back panel is shown to be made of glass, while a dual-lens rear camera setup is seen aligned vertically at the rear. Beside the dual camera module is the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and interestingly, the biometric reader's position matches that of a previous Nokia 9 case leak, which was also listed on Amazon UK.

Nevertheless, there is no guarantee that the spotted new smartphone at the Nokia 8 launch in Jakarta is indeed the Nokia 9. Per GSMArena, the descriptions of the handset in question also match the rumors for the Nokia 7 Plus, which is set to be released later this year. More details about the Nokia 9 and other upcoming Nokia models will be confirmed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 happening on February 26th.
