Nokia 7 Plus specs rumors: New phone to have Android 8.0 Oreo and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 processor

With the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 fast approaching, speculated about new phones have started circulating. One of these new phones rumored to be unveiled at the upcoming event is Nokia's 7 Plus. There is now a reason to believe that the new phone exists: Geekbench, a cross-platform benchmark that measures a hardware's performance, released an entry on Jan. 26 about Nokia 7 Plus and its specs, which include Android 8.0 Oreo and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660.

According to Geekbench's entry, Nokia 7 Plus will sport Android 8.0 Oreo for its operating system. The processor, on the other hand, will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 eight-core system-on-chip (SoC) running with a base frequency of 1.84 GHz — an upgrade from Nokia 7's Snapdragon 630 SoC.

The rumored phone got a Single-Core Performance score of 1636 and a Multi-Core Performance score of 5902. Geekbench scores can be interpreted by looking at the figures — the higher the scores are, the better the performance of a platform is. The Nokia 7 Plus, in the entry, also has a 4 GB random access memory.

The possible size of the phone display was not in the entry, although one can suspect that it may be bigger than its predecessor because of the "Plus" in the name which mobile companies use to name phones with bigger phone display.

HMD, the developer of Nokia phones, released Nokia 7 last year exclusively in China. Rumors about a possible successor to be released at the MWC 2018 arose, but nothing was seen as a substantial evidence until Geekbench released the entry on the rumored phone. It is important to point out that while Geekbench is not an official source of information about the existence of rumored phones, the software has been used for years to measure and analyze the performance of mobile platforms. The entry gave weight to the possibility of the existence of the phone. Nevertheless, Nokia 7 Plus and, consequently, its specs are still rumors until an official statement from HMD proves otherwise.
