Nintendo NX news: Development for console is 'steady,' says Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima

Fans have been clamoring for news about the much-talked-about console, the Nintendo NX, but the Japanese video gaming company is being coy about what they are specifically cooking up for their latest gaming offering.

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has already said that the forthcoming console will be a "brand-new concept" and not a follow-up to the Wii U, which media outlets say is not the company's best. He talked about the NX once again in a recent interview with Sankei West.

Kimishima revealed that the development for the Nintendo NX is steady. The Nintendo head also emphasized that they are not dashing off to hit the console market just yet, something Queensland University of Technology video game lecturer Mitchell McEwan thinks is a good idea.

"The rumor about the NX is that it's a hybrid console, so it would be a portable console like a 3DS, like a handheld, that interfaces with a home console. First of all, it's very hard to break in mid-cycle," McEwan said (via Express).

"PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are just reaching their peak now. They've been out for a couple of years, so Nintendo would be coming in mid-hardware cycle, which historically has been a very hard thing to do well," he went on to explain.

At the moment, it is still unclear when the Nintendo NX will be fully unveiled and made available. In fact, there haven't been concrete details as to what it will look like or how it will work, with Nintendo keeping it tightly under wraps.

It was hinted just recently that the device will be a "home console" although word is that it will also come with a controller that can be connected to the main console or work solo like a handheld.

At the moment, Nintendo is yet to shed light on those rumors although it has long promised that solid details will be provided this year.
