Nexus 6 vs LG G3 comparison: Which Android phone fares better?

The release of Google's latest Nexus 6 from Motorola changes the smartphone game in the market today with its superb new features, giving older smartphones one tough competitor to beat.

But how well does the new Nexus 6 phone fare against LG's flagship phone, the G3?  Here's a look at the two smartphone devices.

Design, Resolution, and Size

The newly released Nexus 6 has a huge 5.9-inch AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution that has 1440 x 2560 pixels with a pixel density of 493 ppi. It is 0.40-inch thick and weighs 184 grams. It also has the same exterior as the Moto X device, which is composed of plastic material with metal edges on the side.

Meanwhile, the LG G3's True HD-IPS + LCD display is a bit smaller at 5.5 inches, but it boasts 534 ppi pixel density. Compared to the Nexus 6, the G3's exterior is plastic with a metallic-effect on the body. It is also smaller and lighter compared to Google's new flagship phone, since it is only 0.35-inch thick and weighs 149 grams.

Operating System, Hardware, and Built-in Memory

The Nexus 6 is packed with a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Krait 450 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz and has an Adreno 420 GPU. Since it is the latest release from Google, it is already running the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. The phone is offered with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB and 64 GB built-in storage options, yet it does not have any provisions for memory expansions.

On the other hand, the LG G3 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.5 GHz and has an Adreno 330 GPU. It runs using the older Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, but there's word that it would be updated to the Android 5.0 Lollipop in the future. The built-in storage options for this device are between 16 GB and 32 GB, with 2 or 3 GB RAM respectively.

Both the Nexus 6 and the LG G3 handsets have the same 13-megapixel primary rear-end cameras with dual-LED flash, 4K video recording support and optical image stabilisation. However, the Nexus 6 has a 2-megapixel secondary front-facing camera while the LG G3 has a clearer 2.1-megapixel secondary camera.

Price

The Google Nexus 6 will reportedly have a $649 price tag once it is released on Nov. 12. The pre-order period already started on Oct. 29. Meanwhile, the LG G3 is currently being offered by various U.S. network carriers at $99 for a two-year contract, but it can be purchased at $599 without contract obligations.
