One of the most anticipated and most popular New Year celebrations has to be the New Year's Eve Times Square ball drop and for this year, the star of the show was decked out with 2688 pieces of crystal triangles to convey the "Gift of Imagination," which is this year's theme.

According to the organizers via ABC7NY, the design of the affair's biggest attraction is meant to move and make attendees take in the idea of "wonderment, fantasy and optimism that nourishes the seeds of knowledge and achievement" that they will take with them counting down to 2016.

Each of the crystals in the ball is meticulously crafted by Waterford's best artisans so the ball can stay pristine and ready for the camera as excited New Year's Eve Times Square ball drop spectators watch it plunge from 470 feet above Times Square all the way to the brand new year.

Each triangle is about 3/8 inch thick, 4.75 inch to 5.75 inch in length and each weighs 6.8 ounces. Putting thousands of these pieces together, the ball should literally shine all throughout the event.

There's no need for a ticket to get into the New Year's Eve Times Square ball drop. There will be mini parties peppered on the location and various eateries and hotels that will offer a great selection of food and drinks.

The gigantic ball will start to drop from the 1 Times Square flagpole on Dec. 31 at 11:59pm ET. It is recommended for spectators to arrive early so that they get to get a great viewing spot as the event's center of attention descends its way to 2016.

The best areas to stay in for the event are along Broadway (43rd-50th Streets) as well as along Seventh Avenue all the way to the 59th Street. For those who won't make it in the event can watch the live feed on the official Times Square New York website and Times Square Ball.
