New 'SoulCalibur VI' character, three returnees confirmed

Groh The Agent in Black is the newest playable character in "Soulcalibur VI." Bandai Namco

Four more characters consisting of three veterans and one newcomer are joining the upcoming "SoulCalibur VI's" roster, as revealed in the game's newly released trailer.

Revealed by Bandai Namco on its YouTube page, the footage introduces Groh. Dubbed in the trailer as "The Agent in Black," he is a classic anime-styled character that sports an eyepatch while yielding a double-end sword that can be separated into two smaller weapons.

Groh can enter into a powered-up state where his blue aura turns into red and his eyepatch is removed, revealing a red-glowing scar underneath. His super move, according to reports, sees him throwing his weapon into his opponent and teleporting behind them before unleashing a series of slashes and one strong stab attack.

Alongside Groh, Bandai Namco also revealed returning heroes -- Nightmare, Kilik, and Xianghua -- all apparently sporting the same playstyle like they did in the past. Nightmare is still relying on heavy attacks and brute force, Kilik throwing long- and short-range attacks with his staff, and Xianghua utilizing a combination of kicks and sword strikes.

This time, however, they get a super attack. Nightmare's super move sees him riding a ghostly horse and charging at the opponent, while Kilik stabs his enemy several times in the air. Xinghua's super move also sees her launching her opponents in the air and slashing them, but ends with one cinematic slice.

The trio, which made their first playable appearance in the original "SoulCalibur," joins previously confirmed returning characters, Sophitia and Mitsurugi.

The latest entry to Bandai Namco's weapons-based fighter game, "SoulCalibur VI" is said to go back the franchise's origins. Last month, the publisher confirmed it will "revisit the events of the original SoulCalibur" and "feature a "diverse lineup of new and returning characters."

"SoulCalibur VI" has no specific release date yet, but it is expected to arrive on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One later this year. Check out its English trailer below.
