New 'Sims' game release date rumors 2018: 'The Sims 5' more likely to be released sooner if 'The Sims 4' brings in more revenue

"The Sims" franchise is one of the best places to turn to if a gamer wants to experience a second life. The franchise seemed to have peaked with the fourth installment, but there are now rumors that say "The Sims 5" will be released sometime in the next two years.

Such rumors are saying that video game developer Electronic Arts (EA) has hinted that they are working on the fifth installment of the beloved simulation franchise. Fans noted that "The Sims 3" was released in 2009 while "The Sims 4" was released sometime in 2014. Considering the five years that passed between the release dates for the two games, Sims players thought the release of "The Sims 5" is near overdue.

If prior release dates are to be followed, it would seem that "The Sims 5" will see its release sometime in 2019 or 2020.

Of course, players expect better graphics and sound in the upcoming sequel when it comes out. However, according to speculation, "The Sims 5" will also put more emphasis into the relationships of both player-controlled Sims and those controlled by artificial intelligence (AI). The simulations will of course be improved, which is expected to bring the game one step closer to portraying real-life situations.

However, there is still one caveat: EA Games apparently stated that "The Sims 5" will be closer to being realized if "The Sims 4" will be more financially successful. It was not clear whether this was an exclusively "if-then" decision, but it is clear that more "The Sims 4" sales will make it more likely for the fifth installment to be released.

In any case, "The Sims 4" is still bringing in new players years after its release. That translates to more revenue for the game company.

EA was not lazy in updating and releasing more add-ons for the game, which helped boost the game's popularity further. It was reported that the player base of the fourth Sims game continues to grow up to 35% every year.
