Based on the recent results of the Golden Globe awards, Netflix has proven that it can produce high-quality original shows for its lineup. Kevin Spacey's achievement as the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama, for one, shows that "House of Cards" is one of the best series launched via streaming today. "Orange is the New Black" is also a Netflix original along with "Hemlock Grove."
These titles join the ranks of other highly-acclaimed titles featured on the popular streaming website, including the seminal documentary titled "The Thin Blue Line," the documentary that focuses on the rising 3D printing industry called "Print the Legend," as well as other fan-loved series reruns like "Friends," "The Office," "Arrested Development," "The Bernie Mac Show," as well as "30 Rock."
However, the streaming website may possibly let go of some of its highly watched British shows in the coming days. According to reports, several TV shows produced by BBC that are currently featured in Netflix may be discontinued after the contract between the two companies expires on Jan. 31. It includes the fan-favorite title "Doctor Who" as well as Idris Elba's "Luther."
Both Netflix and BBC have not given any update about the renewal of their contract, but it does not mean that it may not happen. Yet until either of the networks decide to update the viewers about the fate of their popular shows, it is safe to say that they may be phased out from the roster of Netflix shows starting Feb. 1.
