NBA trade rumors 2018: Spurs' forward Kawhi Leonard next in trading line, Celtics eyes injured player

The previous season has not been the best for all-around player Kawhi Leonard, and it seems like the follow-up is not as fortunate as it seems with rumors flying around in the basketball community that a possible trade is awaiting the injured player.

According to speculations, with many unfortunate scenarios currently occurring in the San Antonio Spurs with Kawhi front and center, it is not far-off the bat if the latter is going first in the trading roster.

Marc Stein, a sportswriter from New York Times, affirmed that rumors are indeed circulating regarding Leonardo's exit from the Spurs this offseason.

According to reports, Leonardo was only able to play nine games during the season after an injury to the quad that sidelined him from returning to play in other bouts. When asked about the injured player's status, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich admitted that he'll be surprised if the 26-year old player returns this coming season.

Earlier, it was reported that there have been a rift between Leonardo and his team which concerns his injuries. Due to this, Leonardo might decide to terminate his contract with the team.

Blasting News reports that this team walk out could occur right after this 2018–19 season. However, there are those who argue that despite his current injury, many teams are eyeing to acquire the star player.

One of the teams rumored to be eyeing Leonardo is the Boston Celtics. According to Metro USA, the Celtics could very well be targeting the injured player in line with the former's acquisition of Kyrie Irving.

They also detailed that, it would be easier for the Celtics to get a trade-in for Leonardo than Davis, the player they wanted to initially acquire. However, if they push through with the trade, they have to let go of either Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum for the Spurs to consider their proposition.

Currently, no confirmation has been announced regarding Leonardo's rumored exchanges. The Boston Celtics has also not officially expressed whether they are moving through with acquiring the said player.
