'Narcos' season 2 spoilers: Executive producer Eric Newman hopes next season will have 'less voice-over'; release date still unconfirmed

While Pablo Escobar's days are guaranteed to be numbered when Netflix drops the second season of "Narcos," the show's official release date remains a top secret.

The biographical crime drama was confirmed to be returning for a sophomore season after season 1 proved popular. This means that viewers will get to see what happens next after the wealthy Colombian drug kingpin escaped imprisonment in La Catedral.

Based on historical facts about Escobar's life, the billionaire cocaine smuggler's life outside La Catedral lasted for only 18 months and he was shot to death by the Colombian National Police in 1993. This means that the plot for "Narcos" will feature Escobar's death in season 2.

Executive producer Eric Newman confirmed this in a press interview about "Narcos" season 2 in January.

"The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in season 1. At the point of Escobar's escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live," Newman said, as reported by Slash Film. "That's not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending," he added.

But aside from the plot of "Narcos" season 2, the executive producer also shared that there are a lot of changes happening in the series when it returns on a still-unspecified date.

"I would say that season 2 is more character driven. Less voice-over I hope," Newman said.

The second season of "Narcos" is expected to see the return of Wagner Moura to portray the role of Pablo Escobar in the series. Pedro Pascal and Boyd Holbrook as DEA agents Javier Pena and Steve Murphy, respectively, will also appear.
