'Mr. Robot' season 2 premiere spoilers: Big plans for White Rose and Elliot's dad

 USA Network

A mind-blowing episode of "Mr. Robot" ended its first season run with a loud bang.

In the penultimate episode, Elliot (Rami Malek) already realized that Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) is just a figment of his imagination, and he was just taking his father's persona to refer to the Mr. Robot that he has been interacting with from the start of the series. But Elliot once again asked Mr. Robot about Tyrell's (Martin Wallström) whereabouts after the senior vice president of technology of the Evil Corp suddenly disappeared.

The highly talked about season finale of "Mr. Robot" showed the culmination of fsociety's grand plan to take down the Evil Corp by staging the most unfixable hack in their system, turning it upside down, which resulted to the suicide of the company's EVP of Technology on live TV. But the series also managed to affect the minds of its viewers with its unexpected ending that keeps everyone guessing where the show will take them next.

While Tyrell's location is still unrevealed, the season ended with a cliffhanger when Elliot was about to answer the knock on the door. But in the post-credits, Evil Corp's CEO Phillip Price was seen talking to the Dark Army leader White Rose (BD Wong), who is now transformed into a man. The two seemed to be plotting something big.

Series creator Sam Esmail talked about that final scene with the press, as he teased about the plans for "Mr. Robot" season 2. In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Esmail admitted that it was not easy tying up the post-credit scene with Elliot's story but it was the perfect way to introduce the second season.

"I was trying to figure out structurally where to put it in the last episode, and because it does such a good job of queuing up our next season arc, I basically came up with the idea of putting it after the credits, which is something not typically done on television shows. I just thought, 'OK, that's a great way to use the classic strategy of creating a coda,' which is exactly what it is, and allowing me to end the season properly on Elliot," Esmail claimed.

Also, Esmail told Variety that even if Mr. Robot's true identity was revealed in season 1, the character will still be one of the central parts of the story next season.

According to the series creator, "The show is about this relationship. The show is about a guy discovering in fact that he has dissociative identity disorder, and we're with him as he's discovering that, and what do you do ... as you realize your personality is starting to fragment away from you."

"Mr. Robot" season 2 was already picked up by USA Network even before the series began in May.
