Motorola Moto Z Play release date, specs: leaked image shows device keeping headphone jack

A new leak featuring the Motorola Moto Z Play hints that the upcoming smartphone won't match the other Moto Z devices in the lineup in terms of design and appearance.

The leaked image suggests that the Moto Z Play will keep the 3.5mm headphone jack, which the recently unveiled Moto Z and Moto Z Force chose to do without.

While the authenticity of the image is yet to be confirmed, the source, which is Hello Moto HK, holds a solid track record on all things Motorola leaks.

That being said, there may actually be a possibility that the 3.5mm headphone jack is not be going anywhere in the Moto Z Play. It is unknown as to why Motorola and its parent company Lenovo chose to keep the said hardware.

The image also suggests that that the Moto Z Play will be much thicker than the other devices in its series. Sandwiched between the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force, it is obvious that the Moto Z Play is the bulkiest of the three.

One thing the Moto Z Play had in common with the other two is the Type-C USB port. Despite big design tweaks, Lenovo chose to give the device an updated connector.

The Moto Z and Moto Z Force are not getting the headphone jack. In order for users to listen to use a headphone on the said devices, it has to be compatible with the Type-C USB port.

It is unknown if it will be the same for the Moto Z Play seeing that it still has the headphone jack intact. It will be interesting to see what the smartphone has to offer beyond this.

As for the rest of the specs, an AnTuTu benchmark listing of the device hints that it will sport a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution.

The Moto Z Play will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with the Adreno 506 GPU or graphics processing unit helping it to churn some power.

Complementing this is 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of storage. On the imaging side, users get a 16-megapixel rear-facing and a 5MP front-facing shooter. The Moto Z Play will cost $300 USD.
