Moto X 2016 release date: Specs teased in benchmark ahead of fall release

More leaks featuring the upcoming Moto devices by Lenovo are being leaked. The so-called Moto X 2016 recently popped up on GFXBench.

The listing on the website reveals that the device will boast a 4.6-inch Full HD display, which is a lot smaller than last year's 5.2-inch screen. Other models are at 5.5 inches to 5.7.

This definitely makes sense seeing that Motorola has long planned to downgrade its famed Moto X line from flagship to upper-midrange.

For a midrange device, the benchmarked Moto X 2016 packs a lot of power. It shows an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with the Mali-T860 graphics card or GPU.

Last year's Moto X was fitted out with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor so the change of manufacturer really is an interesting bit to explore.

Packaged in the Moto X 2016 is 3GB RAM, up from its predecessor 2GB memory. The one that passed through the GFXBench had 32GB storage although users can imagine a smaller 16GB model.

The Moto X 2016 has Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Unless its move to Lenovo changed that, Motorola will likely equip the device with the latest version as it did in its previous offerings.

The listing also indicates that the Moto X 2016 will feature a 16-megapixe l rear-facing shooter and an 8MP front-facing selfie snapper.

While it is unclear that the one on the GFXBench listing is the Moto X 2016, there's reason to believe it is. After all, Motorola has already said that the X line is not going anywhere and is "alive and well."

The Lenovo-owned company did not promise that a Moto X device will be released. Either way, it looks like Motorola is still committed to expanding the X family.

The Moto X 2016 is expected to drop this September. Apart from the device, the rumored Moto Z Play was also leaked via a Geekbench listing as well.
