The Mobile World Congress (MWC) participants were expecting the launch of Motorola's new Moto G6 smartphone during last week's tech expo. Specifically, the Lenovo-owned handset maker was supposed to unveil the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play variants at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona, given that the Moto G5 was showcased a year ago at the same stage. Nevertheless, the rumors are rife that the G6 is coming very soon, particularly the G6 Play, as evidenced by a regulatory filing leaked earlier this week.

Trendy Techz has tipped that Motorola is about to drop the latest G-series update soon after spotting the listing for Moto G6 Play from the Taiwanese certification agency, NCC. To note, the "Play" tag is given to a Moto smartphone model to indicate its extended battery life compared with the regular variant. According to the NCC certification, the Moto G6 Play is expected to include a 4,000 mAh battery, giving the handset enough capacity to last throughout the day without charging. Combining this with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, the G6 Play is expected to boast improved power efficiency.

Furthermore, the Moto G6 Play is shown to sport a 5.7-inch display with 2:1 aspect ratio and 1,440 x 720 pixel resolution. The Verge compared the alleged G6 Play's design with Motorola's older premium handset, the Moto X4, due to its reduced bezels. The upcoming G6 model is also expected to feature its fingerprint reader, now mounted at the rear or just beneath the camera lens.

Speaking of the camera, the NCC listing for the Moto G6 Play reveals that the smartphone will sport a 16-megapixel single-lens rear shooter, contrary to earlier unverified reports that the next G-series update will make the leap to a dual-camera setup. The handset will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box.

The G6 Play will have two memory options, 3 GB of random-access memory (RAM) with 32 GB built-in storage and 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB internal storage. Unlike other recently-released midrange smartphones, the G6 Play is shown to use a micro USB instead of USB Type-C port. Lastly, the device is likely to stick with the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
