Google finally announced on Nov. 12 that they are ready to provide the Android 5.0 Lollipop over-the-air update for Moto G, alongside another Motorola device called Moto X and older Nexus handsets, including Nexus 4, Nexus 5, the 2012 and 2013 models of Nexus 7, as well as Nexus 10.

The mid-range smartphone from Motorola will reportedly be the first non-Google device to receive the final version of the Android 5.0 Lollipop software.  The announcement was posted on the official blog of Motorola, saying:

We've started to roll out Lollipop in phases just a week after the public release of the software to the following devices in the US:

  • Moto X (2nd Gen.) Pure Edition
  • Moto G (2nd Gen.) US GSM
  • Moto G (2nd Gen.) Global GSM retail versions sold in the US

Motorola is also proud to announce that they are rolling out the updates one week after Google publicly released Android 5.0 Lollipop. They even beat out other Google-owned Nexus devices to receive the new mobile operating system.

Last week, Google decided to delay the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop for Nexus smartphones to fix the bug that affected the devices' battery life. As soon as the bug was fixed, the roll out process went on smoothly.

Other Moto devices are also expected to get the update, including the Moto E, Verizon's Moto DROID Turbo, the Moto Droid Mini, the Moto Droid Ultra, as well as the international version of Verizon's exclusive smartphone which is called the Moto Droid Maxx.

Some of the new features that Moto G will carry once the update is successfully installed include the new Smart Lock settings, an improved Motorola Assist, redesigned notifications alert, as well as a flashlight option that will be seen in the device's Quick settings.

Other smartphone manufacturers also announced that they are planning to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, including HTC and LG.
