Big things are indeed coming to "Mortal Kombat X." Game director Ed Boon earlier tweeted teasers pertaining to an important announcement, after which he confirmed that "Kombat Pack 2" is being developed for a 2016 release.

NetherRealm Studios' creative director began giving "Mortal Kombat" fans hints on Sept. 1, revealing that a major piece of news will come out sometime this week. All the tweets seemed to be hinting at the release of a "Kombat Pack 2" DLC which would bring more playable characters in the game. However, Boon wanted to keep gamers guessing.

On Sept. 3, NetherRealm Studios finally broke their silence and confirmed that a 'Kombat Pack 2' DLC is already in the works. According to the announcement:

Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed that NetherRealm Studios is developing new downloadable content (DLC) for 'Mortal Kombat X,' the best-selling game of 2015 to-date according to US NPD. The new content will include four new playable characters, skins and a new environment, all of which will be available in the first half of 2016."

Back in May, Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" film series came out as the first character added to the 10th main installment in the "Mortal Kombat" game franchise. The other characters included in the game's expansion pack are the Predator from the film "Predator" as well as past "Mortal Kombat" characters Tanya and Tremor.

But while the series creator did not include any hints about the next characters to be included in the popular fighting game, iDigitalTimes pointed out that Boon posted photos of a moon in some of his tweets. This might be pertaining to Nightwolf, one of the iconic "Mortal Kombat" characters. Nightwolf's entry into the game will not be surprising since his former nemeses Shinnok and Quan Chi are already featured in "Mortal Kombat X." Nightwolf was first introduced in "Mortal Kombat 3."

The "Mortal Kombat X: Kombat Pack 2" DLC is expected to come out in the first half of 2016.
