"Modern Family" season 8 hasn't even started yet, but the attention is already on how many more seasons the hit show will have.

Ed O'Neill, who plays the role of Jay Pritchett in the hit mockumentary, revelled in the success of "Modern Family" in an interview with Collider.

"I thought it was going to be a hit from the moment I read it. It's a hit show. And that was before I knew anyone involved," the actor said.

On the question of how long he'll think "Modern Family" will go on for after season 8, he said, "We're starting our eighth year, it could go ten. It could go ten."

Co-creator Steve Levitan also believes that there could be two more runs after "Modern Family" season 8. However, this may or may not transpire.

"I think my personal goal at this point would be 10 seasons. I don't know if it's attainable or not; I think we'll have to look at it every year," Levitan told Deadline.

"And if we feel like we're just running out of things to say then it will be time to make that tough call," he went on to say.

Levitan's "Modern Family" co-creator Christopher Lloyd believes that concocting new stories to tell has become increasingly tougher over the years as the show has covered a lot already.

While the goal is 10 seasons, it is still likely that Levitan and Lloyd might wrap things up in "Modern Family" season 8. For now, the goal is not to finish "weak."

As for what to expect on O'Neill's character in "Modern Family" season 8, it is said that he will have a tough time adjusting to a new chapter in his life following his retirement.

Because of this, quarrels with his daughter Claire (Julie Bowen) could be a bigger thing in "Modern Family" season 8 now.

"Modern Family" season 8 is expected to premiere this September.
