Minecraft updates: New female character, new achievements, and The Simpsons skins released

The Simpsons family on Minecraft Mojang

Major improvements are coming for Minecraft in the coming days.

Mojang announced that they will be releasing a number of new achievements, skins, and music for better gaming experience.

One of the biggest additions in Minecraft this week is the inclusion of a female default character named Alex. She will reportedly have "thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail" compared to Steve, the only other default character of the game.

Mojang's Oliver Hill explained the need to bring a female character into the game, saying that though everyone loves Steve, he just does not represent the range of all their fan base.

The Verge pointed out that Alex was actually introduced in the game's PC version last year, but the character was randomly assigned by the system which is why the players have no liberty to choose whether the character they are playing would be a girl or a boy.

But because of the new skin that will be released for the game console versions of Minecraft, the players can now have the option to choose Alex or Steve when playing.

The Alex skins will debut for free on all consoles starting April 29.

Meanwhile, Minecraft players who use the PlayStation will get another skin pack this week. This time, it will feature the famous animated TV family The Simpsons, as well as some of their closest friends and foes from Springfield. Aside from Homer, Marge, Bart, Maggie, and Lisa, they will be joined by Principal Seymour Skinner, Dewy Largo, and Groundskeeper Willie, among others.

The Simpson skin for Minecraft PlayStation edition will be available on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the Xbox 360 edition of the popular sandbox puzzle game will also get added bonus tunes and extra achievements this week through the latest update. This will give the Xbox 360 players the chance to enjoy what the additional 30 achievements that Xbox One players had been experiencing for a while.

The achievements for Minecraft Xbox 360 edition are expected to come this week.
