Microsoft Xim app's new update brings photo sharing to bigger screens

It is now easier to enjoy viewing photos as Microsoft Research made its Xim photo sharing app compatible with bigger screens. Xim users can now link their mobile devices like smartphones or tablets to Google Chromecast, Apple TV, Xbox One, or Amazon Fire TV to display their pictures for a better viewing experience.

Launched in October, this photo sharing app works just like a short-term ad hoc network that can link different devices to allow users to share their photos with others at a distance. It means that users do not have to huddle around a single device just to see the pictures since they can view it simultaneously through their own smartphones. And because of the latest update, even more people can view the photos because the app can now link TVs with the smartphones.

Microsoft's Senior Marketing Communications Manager David Chen mentioned in an article posted on the official company website that once Xim is connected to a wireless network, it can detect any streaming media devices automatically. The pairing between two or more devices can also be easily done with just a single touch of a button.

"What's especially cool is that someone can call you on your mobile phone while you're at home, initiate a Xim session, have you pair your device with the streaming media player in your house and, using their mobile phone, control the images appearing on your big screen," Chen also said.

Aside from the latest update on the Xim app, Microsoft also released the Gestures Beta app for Windows Phone. It aims to let users receive phone calls, put incoming calls in silent mode, as well as designate more tasks with the help of simple gestures.

The Xim app can be downloaded on any Android, iOS, and Windows Phone devices.
