Microsoft Windows 10 Lean Edition release date. news: Special OS update for computers with less storage now underway

The next version of Microsoft Windows 10 is about to drop in the coming months. The upcoming Windows 10 update, initially called the Redstone 5, will introduce additional features and system boost to improve user experience. However, the Redmond-based tech firm is reportedly developing another version of the Windows 10 update called the Lean edition, which is built for computers with less storage space.

Microsoft has yet to comment regarding the next Windows 10 update, although The Verge's insider sources claim that a seperate edition of the OS version will be designed for low-cost laptops and devices that have lower storage capacity. This will be called the Windows 10 Lean edition, a watered-down version of the Redstone 5 build which will be delivered to OEMs that produce devices that run with only 16GB of storage.

A tech tipster on Twitter known as Lucan was the first to spot the hints of the upcoming Lean edition on the public release version of the Windows 10 Preview build 17650. Lucan has discovered that the installation of this OS version will save around 2GB of storage space. Aside from the apparent reduction in storage space demand, the new contents of the Windows 10 Lean edition were not specified. Still, more features can still be added to the OS update, knowing that the Redstone 5 is on its early stage.

It should be noted that the rumored Microsoft Windows 10 Lean edition is different from the previously launched Windows 10 S, which is another stripped-down version of the operating system. The Lean edition will aim to reduce the storage space requirement of the OS by removing the applications and components that are not essential in low-tier computers. Some of the features that will be eliminated from this edition are the Internet Explorer and some legacy desktop apps. It was also tipped that the regedit feature of Windows 10 will be removed as well, and Microsoft is still looking for other components to be taken out from the Lean edition.

Many people will benefit from the Microsoft Windows 10 Lean edition, as users of devices with less than 16GB of storage are having constant issues with installing Windows updates. In the end, they choose to free up space by deleting apps, media, and other important files just to get the Windows 10 updates. More information about the rumored Lean edition will be revealed as Microsoft will hold its Build developer conference next month.
