Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date, specs news: Reported leaked teaser came from original Surface Book promo

The rumors about the so-called promo image of Microsoft Surface Book 2 turned out to be untrue.

Windows Central first came up with the report after spotting an image posted on Microsoft Surface's Instagram account in late August. According to the report, the image came from an "internal Microsoft 'sizzler'" that aims to tease several ideas regarding the highly anticipated Surface Book 2.

But Windows developer Rudy Huyn turned to Twitter to correct the report, saying that the image was a cropped version of the promo photo for the original Surface Book.

Huyn also posted the original image to accompany his post, as well as the photo showing how the keyboard area was cropped for the Instagram post. However, Huyn did not provide any additional information about the new generation of Surface Book in his Twitter post.

Meanwhile, early reports claimed that Microsoft Surface Book 2 will come up with an improved hinge after the first Surface Book received a lot of criticisms for its unusual shape.

According to reports, some of the users were not pleased with the gap between the screen and the keyboard since it collects dust and dirt. This reportedly prompted Microsoft to come up with a new design that will feature the traditional laptop shape for the second-generation laptop and tablet hybrid product.

The rumored Microsoft Surface Book 2 is also rumored to have the latest Intel Kaby Lake chipset, which could be the reason why the release date of the device could be delayed to 2017 since the new chipset is still unreleased.

Other speculated specs for the upcoming Microsoft Surface Book 2 include the USB 3.1 support as well as new graphics support for 4K videos. It may also have 3D features as well.

Microsoft is expected to release more details about the Surface Book 2 in the upcoming days.
