The Microsoft Surface Book 2 will not be released this year, according to the latest reports. This is purportedly because the software giant is experiencing issues with the laptop's design.
The Microsoft Surface Book 2 was expected to be released this October because its predecessor was released that same month last year. There were even reports of a June launch.
However, Tech Radar is now reporting that the laptop won't be released until spring 2017 because of the said "design conflicts."
A report by Christian Times claims that the development team is having issues with incorporating without hitch the Ultra HD display and the Thunderbolt 3 (a fast and versatile connector) to the Microsoft Surface Book 2. This ultimately leads to the delay.
Furthermore, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 was previously reported to launch spring next year because Microsoft is waiting for Redstone 2, the second big update coming to the Windows 10.
Redstone 2 brings a whole host of new and exciting features that Microsoft would like to take advantage of in the Microsoft Surface Book 2. However, this update isn't going to be ready this year. Microsoft, in turn, is forced to wait for it instead.
Another reason the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will take longer to get here is because Microsoft is allegedly waiting for the availability of the Intel Kaby Lake processors, the upgrade to the Skylake, the one that powers the Surface Book.
Through these chipsets, Microsoft will be able to make the device thinner, more powerful and efficient. Its battery life will drastically improve as well.
Meanwhile, there are still reports circulating regarding Microsoft's plans to steal the thunder from the MacBook Pro 2016, which Apple is expected to unveil at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) later this month.
The Redmond-based tech firm reportedly plans to do this by releasing the Microsoft Surface Book 2. However, there haven't been any signs of either of the laptops seeing the light of day anytime soon.
Whether or not Microsoft plans to compete with the MacBook Pro 2016 next month with the Microsoft Surface Book 2 remains to be seen at the moment.
