Things between Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) do not look good in the ninth episode of "Masters of Sex" season 3.
The research partners are starting to drift apart after Virginia lied to Bill about being sick so she could go with Dan Logan (Josh Charles) to Las Vegas to push forward with their affair, while Bill decided to continue studying the surrogacy program that Virginia strongly opposes. In the upcoming episode titled "High Anxiety," Bill will still move forward with the surrogacy study.
Showtime released a short synopsis for the episode, which reads: "Masters continues his surrogacy program, now under Johnson's critical eye."
Will Bill's new study, using unmarried individuals with sex surrogates to cure their sexual dysfunction, progress now that Virginia is back to continuously criticize the program, believing it is highly immoral and unethical?
Meanwhile, the previous episode also showed Bill's former neighbor Nora Everett (Emily Kinney), who returned to town to apply in the sex surrogacy program. Nora seemed to remind Bill a lot of Virginia, who is also very frank and straightforward when discussing sex with other people.
Bill was immediately impressed with Nora's enthusiasm about the research, but he became instantly attached to her when she told him about her past recollection about the doctor when she was younger. It seems like Bill embraces the fact that Nora is a more welcoming version of Virginia.
Last episode also showed the return of Austin Langdon (Teddy Sears) in the series, who agreed to be the sperm donor for Bill's secretary Betty (Annaleigh Ashford) and her partner Helen (Sarah Silverman).
At first, Betty and Helen tried to trick Bill into believing that the latter married Austin, but they are having problems conceiving. They want Bill to help them with artificial insemination to get pregnant. Bill had no idea that Helen and Austin were faking it, until he learned that her hymen is still intact. The popular sexual reproduction expert was furious at Betty for lying to him. Does it mean that the couple's plans to have their own child will not push through anymore?
"Masters of Sex" season 3 episode 9 is slated to air on Sunday, Sept. 6.
