'Mass Effect: Andromeda' release date delay update: Pushed back to 2017; Pathfinder images revealed

BioWare announced the upcoming "Mass Effect: Andromeda" during the 2015 E3 event, but further details about the game's official release date and main protagonist have just been revealed.

According to a NeoGaf post, a recording of the EA presentation during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference held in San Francisco, California on Wednesday confirmed that the sequel to "Mass Effect 3" will come out in the market during the first quarter of 2017.

"We have our Mirror's Edge runner game this first quarter, and then we have Mass Effect, which is a sci-fi action game, in our fourth quarter. So big year ahead and we're pretty excited," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed during the event, as transcribed by a NeoGaf user.

Since the fourth quarter of the fiscal year ends on March 31, it means that the game will come out sometime between January and March next year.

Jorgensen's statement confirmed that the release date of the upcoming action role-playing shooter game has been delayed from the original planned Q4 2016 release.

Meanwhile, a first look at the main protagonist of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" has been posted on the ZBrushCentral website by BioWare Montreal's senior character artist Furio Tedeschi.

The images that were reportedly displayed during the ZDBrush Summit 2015 were attributed to BioWare Montreal lead character designer Herbert Lewis, with the caption: "And our Pathfinder character model at BioWare Montreal...for Mass Effect: Andromeda."

While there is no confirmation from the game development company, reports claim that the images look very similar to the lead character of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" seen in the teaser trailer shown during the 2015 E3 launch.

Based on the description from EA and BioWare, players will be able to fully customize the game's lead character. It means that Pathfinder can be a man or a woman.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is expected to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
