"Mass Effect Andromeda" won't be in the hands of space opera fans anytime soon. Developer Bioware has confirmed the game's delay to "early 2017," justifying that the hold-up is for the betterment of the title.

"As we've been playing the game at the studio recently, it's showing us that we're taking the game in the right direction," the company said in an official statement.

"But we also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be – that's our commitment from all of us to all of you," Bioware added.

This ultimately leads to the game studio forgoing the preplanned holiday 2016 release of "Mass Effect Andromeda." Bioware promised that the added months of waiting will be worth it.

Fans will remember that in the middle of the production for "Mass Effect Andromeda," several people vital to the development of the project left the company.

Both senior development director Chris Wynn and lead writer Chris Schlerf exited while work for "Mass Effect Andromeda" is underway. It is unknown if these departures affected the development. But even then, Bioware assured that things were going smoothly.

Even though the wait will be longer, it won't be completely "Mass Effect" dearth for fans. For the first time in months, fans will finally learn more about "Mass Effect Andromeda" in the upcoming EA Play event next month.

Bioware promises that they will share news and updates during the event. Their panel is scheduled on June 12. Fans hope that the studio will show off some gameplay footage and reveal more about the elements of the story and gameplay.

Bioware hasn't spoken about "Mass Effect Andromeda" since it announced the game last year. Fans have been relying on rumors and leaks and the intermittent tweets of the developers and artists working on the project.

"Mass Effect Andromeda" is expected to be one of the biggest game releases next year. It has been teased that the game will make fans "hyperventilate" and that the visuals and graphics are "stunning."

There will be a new protagonist taking the helm. Over at the rumor mills, there are talks that this new lead character will be an untested explorer setting course to a dangerous part of space called the Helius Cluster.
