Insomniac Games, the game creator that brought classic games such as "Ratchet and Clank" and "Spyro the Dragon" onto console screens, is heading the development for a new, heavily anticipated title rumored to be dropping in the fourth quarter of 2018 -- "Marvel's Spider-Man."

Sony's initial announcement for the upcoming "friendly neighborhood" superhero game came out two years ago during E3 2016. There, they announced that Insomniac Games will be taking the lead in developing the said project.

In recent statements, Sony announced a 2018 window release date for the game, but they did not go into specific details.

According to previous speculations, the Marvel superhero title is said to drop in the third quarter (either July, August, or September) of this year.

This information was revealed by GamesRadar back in January. In a report, they stated that a retailer (CoolShop) for the upcoming game listed the title for a September 28 release. But after some time, they changed the release to a "safer" and wider launch window of 2018.

In line with this unconfirmed tidbit, GamesRadar advised fans to take this new development "with a grain of salt" seeing as it has not been confirmed by the developers.

But rumors never seem to completely die out regarding the game's planned release.

According to reports, a Marvel employee, named Stephen Wacker, hinted at an October release for the PlayStation exclusive, which falls on the fourth quarter of the year (October, November, December).

This rumored release will directly follow another intended release -- "Red Dead Redemption 2."

While speculations about the game are plenty, in contrast, Sony refuses to drop hints and chooses to keep mum on the exact date of release.

"Marvel's Spider-Man" will be an open-world action adventure game. It is going to be exclusively released on Sony's console platform the PlayStation 4.

The game is also set to feature character Miles Morales -- who will, in the future, take on the role of the arachnid-inspired superhero.

No news about possible ports to PC and Xbox One has been confirmed or released since the title's initial outing in E3 2016.
