'Marvel's Daredevil' season 2 renewed by Netflix

After Netflix released the first 13-episode season of Drew Goddard's critically acclaimed Web series "Marvel's Daredevil," the online streaming service announced that it will pick up the show for a second season. The adventure of The Man Without Fear will indeed continue, but it will not be shown until 2016.

However, the EW confirmed that series showrunner Steven S. DeKnight will not be spearheading the show next season. He will instead be replaced by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" Doug Petrie as well as Marco Ramirez of "Sons of Anarchy" fame. The two worked closely with DeKnight and Goddard during the first season of the series.

DeKnight explained his necessary exit from the show in a post on the official Marvel website, saying:

"While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."

Naturally, show creator Goddard will join Ramirez and Petrie in the production of "Daredevil" season 2, as well as "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D's" Jeph Loeb.

"Marvel's Daredevil" stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer by day who turns into the superhero Daredevil at night. He is joined by Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Bob Gunton as Leland Owlsely a.k.a. The Owl, Vondie Curtis Hall as Ben Urich, Toby Leonard Moore as Wesley, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, as well as Vincent D'Onofrio as antagonist Wilson Fisk.

Although it will take one year before Netflix releases the "Daredevil" series once again, the popular Internet streaming service has a lot of other Marvel series lined up this year. It includes "Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones" scheduled to be released in late 2015, as well as "Marvel's Luke Cage" which is reportedly slated to be released before "Daredevil" returns next year.
