A new set of images for "Marvel's Daredevil" season 2 has been released by Netflix.

One photo shows Elektra (Elodie Yung) sitting on a couch and another features Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) pointing a gun at the fully costumed Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox).

While the images did not reveal more details about "Marvel's Daredevil" season 2, they managed to give an insight into the new characters in the series.

Earlier reports said that the new season of "Marvel's Daredevil" will have a "Daredevil vs Punisher" theme. The reports appear to be affirmed by on one of the photos where The Punisher entangles the Man Without Fear in chains and holds him at gunpoint. The characters clash a lot in the DC Comics series.

Series showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez recently talked about the gun-toting character in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Based on the report, The Punisher could be considered as a unique kind of superhero since most characters from both the Marvel and D.C. worlds normally avoid using guns.

"Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we're also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves," Petrie explained. "Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you've got a gun and you're not the police you're going to incite strong feelings.

Meanwhile, Elektra's plot line in the season has not been confirmed. But there are rumors saying she will be Murdock's "lethal love interest."

Aside from Murdock, other returning characters in "Marvel's Daredevil" season 2 include Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page, Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson, and Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple. Scott Glenn will also appear in the next installment of the series as Stick, as well as Peter McRobbie, who will play Lantom.

"Marvel's Daredevil" season 2 will air in 2016 on Netflix.
