Mark Driscoll's new church will meet for the first time on Easter Sunday

Former Mars Hill pastor Mark Driscoll resigned from his position less than two years ago

Mark Driscoll's new venture, The Trinity Church, will hold its first gathering on Easter Sunday.

The former pastor of Mars Hill Church announced the faith community would meet in the Glass and Garden Drive-In church in Scottsdale, Arizona.

A post on The Trinity Church's website said the occasion was an "historic opportunity to gather for the first time" as it was 50 years since the building was opened in Easter 1966.

"Even though it's last minute, as the ink on our rental contract is still wet, we look forward to meeting you at our modest open house and prayer meeting.

"Pastor Mark will be sharing our church vision as we begin gathering our launch team."

The disgraced pastor announced his intention to start a new church in Arizona a month ago, with the support of prominent evangelical leaders including Robert Morris and Jimmy Evans, two Texas megachurch pastors.

He resigned from Mars Hill in October 2014 after allegations of bullying, plagiarism, emotional abuse and manipulation mounted against him. His new church's websites states: "He took over a year off from local pastoral ministry to learn, repent, grow, heal, and meet with many people involved."

A lawsuit against Driscoll and his former chief elder at Mars Hill, Sutton Turner, was filed two weeks ago. The case accused them of a "pattern of racketeering activity".

However Driscoll dismissed the accusations saying they were "false and malicious".

Driscoll's new church building was designed to hold a 1,400 church and near-by drive-in movie theatre. Although the theatre has gone, the church building still exists and was named one of the "10 Coolest Churches" by local media.
