News about the renewal of "Marco Polo" for season 3 remains scarce, but speculations are rife that Benedict Wong will no longer reprise his role as Kublai Khan if the epic series will be renewed for another season.

According to reports, Wong was asking the streaming service provider to increase his talent fee if they want him to return for the third season of "Marco Polo." But other speculations claimed that the actor was actually having second thoughts about reprising the role since the character is expected to die in the upcoming season.

There are also reports claiming that Wong will be busy working on the set of Marvel's "Doctor Strange" movie, which is why he had to absent for the third season of "Marco Polo."

The absence of Wong could greatly affect the show since he portrays one of the key characters in "Marco Polo." If speculations will turn out to be true, Netflix will introduce a new character to deviate the story away from Kublai Khan for the upcoming season of the show, in case Wong will opt not to reprise his role.

However, the online entertainment streaming service provider has yet to make a decision regarding the renewal of "Marco Polo" for season 3. Reports claimed that the show will be canceled because of its staggering budget.

Rumors revealed that Netflix is only willing to allocate a limited amount if the historical drama series will be produced for season 3. This may not be feasible since the series is considered as one of the most expensive TV shows worldwide. Working on a small budget could also affect the outcome of the show, since it was filmed in various locations like Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and Italy.

Netflix is expected to announce their decision about the renewal of "Marco Polo" season 3 in the coming days.
