Apple is reportedly working on the next operating system (OS) for the MacBook. It might still be too early to talk about its possible features as the launching of the so-called macOS 10.14 is not yet expected in the coming months. Although, there are already rumors that the upcoming macOS update will include special apps that can be supported by the iOS for iPhone and iPad as well.

There is no official name given yet for the macOS 10.14, but the news is already out regarding its features. As reported by MacRumors, the macOS 10.14 is expected to include iOS apps, something that will require intensive knowledge and time in order to happen. It appears that Apple is working on universal apps that can be supported by the 2018 macOS version, as well as the iOS 12 that is expected to drop this summer. With this, software developers will find it easier to create cross-platform applications that can run on MacBooks, iPhone and iPad devices.

It was tipped that the Cupertino-based tech firm will allow developers to create an app that will work either with a mouse or trackpad-based computer, as well as a touchscreen. The universal app feature will recognize if it is currently running on an iOS or macOS machine. Developers will no longer have to work double-time in delivering different versions of their software between the macOS and iOS.

With the macOS 10.14's universal app feature, MacBook users are expected to access more applications as some of the popular iOS apps will make their way to the macOS platform. It is likely that the Mac version of the iOS's Home app for controlling HomeKit contents will be included.

Regarding the official name of the macOS 10.14, Apple submitted a long list of landmark names for the trademark back in 2014, and within this list could be the next name of the 2018 macOS update. Some of the names of popular cities, mountain areas and beaches that were already trademarked come from Apple's home state, California.

The macOS 10.14 is expected to launch at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on the first week of June.
