MacBook Pro 2018 release date, specs rumors: Next MacPro update could include Intel's 8th-gen quad-core processor, Face ID

Apple has not yet confirmed a major MacBook Pro update coming this 2018, although the rumors are rife that the Cupertino-based tech firm will further improve the users' experience with the pro-level Mac laptops. For one, the 2018 MacBook Pro is said to feature significant boost in performance, thanks to Intel's 8th-generation quad-core processor. It is also likely that the next MacPro will borrow some features from the iPhone X, particularly the Face ID.

As reported by Forbes, the MacBook Pro 2018 will make the leap from the 7th-generation dual-core processor to the latest Intel 8th-gen quad-core. The benchmarking result of the current 13-inch MacBook Pro will give an idea on how fast and efficient the laptop's performance will be with an 8th-gen quad-core processor. The online publication reports that a MacBook Pro carrying an Intel 8th-gen quad-core would have up to 40 percent performance boost compared with the older MacBook Pro with a 7th-gen processor. A 13-inch MacBook Pro with a quad-core processor could even match the capabilities of the current 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Meanwhile, MacWorld UK reported that the MacBook Pro 2018 might also introduce new color options for the users to choose from. Presently, the MacPro only has the silver and space grey color variants, while the regular Mac laptop has the gold and rose-gold colors. It is possible that the MacBook Pro would start adopting the gold color options this year, but for now, it appears that Apple has assigned silver as the color coding for its premium-level Mac laptops.

The MacBook Pro 2018 having the iPhone X's Face ID system is also within the realm of possibilities, given that Apple has already acquired a 3D facial recognition technology that works for devices with a smaller size. To note, the latest Windows laptops have already incorporated face scanning as an option to unlock the screen, and this year could be Apple's opportunity to bring the same feature in the MacBook Pro.

It is rumored that the first batch of latest Apple hardware will be launched this March, and the MacBook Pro 2018 could be one of those new product offerings. If not, there is a chance that the next-gen MacPro will be showcased at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
