The cast and crew of "Luke Cage" officially begin filming for the show's anticipated second season this summer.
According to reports, lead star Michael Colter recently confirmed that "Luke Cage" season 2 will start filming in June. The 40-year-old actor confirmed the news during the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo on Sunday. Colter announced that principal photography for the new installment will begin in June and that filming is set to conclude by March 2018. This suggests that season 2 could premiere around mid- to late-2018.
Comicbook notes that the series is currently looking for two new actors to play main characters in the story. Both cast members will be series regulars in season 2.
The casting call indicates the first character is named Byron, a 45-year-old man of African descent. An intelligent and natural leader, he has his eyes set on achieving justice for everyone. Meanwhile, the other character is named Tamara. Described as a brilliant and earthy female in her mid-20s to early 30s, Tamara is a strong singer and a confident business owner. Although she tries to stay away from trouble, it always seems to find her.
Shows usually provide codenames during casting calls to keep the actual character names secret from eager fans. Based on the descriptions from the studio, Marvel Comics fans speculate that Byron could be Bushmaster. It is likely that season 2 will set the stage for Bushmaster to be the new villain in town. Tamara, on the other hand, might be Luke's sister. Luke originally has a brother in the comics, but if Netflix tweaks the story and gives him a sister instead, it will certainly introduce a new character dynamic to the program.
Back in September, "Luke Cage" showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker stressed that season 1 was about the "evolution of a hero." Since the story could now focus on other central characters, he also teased that the introduction of "Heroes for Hire" from the comics might be explored in the next season.
The second season of Netflix's "Luke Cage" is expected to premiere sometime late in 2018.
